MUSICALS  7 - 14 YEARS

Please note: The videos on this site are all from Nuworks Youth Theatre productions. They reflect a VERY limited budget, while we hope, retaining excellent production values.  Nuworks shows, often but certainly not always, include adults in significant roles. However, this need not be the case.  It is certainly not the case at my school where, fortunately, I have an unlimited budget and all roles are played by young student actors.I would love to have included some of my school productions here but for obvious reason, that simply isn't possible.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

Shakespeare’s most loved comedy: a tale of magic, hijinx and romance. This IS Shakespeare, edited but largely authentic, and for those who think this too difficult for young children, are quite wrong. Please, do yourself a favour, and watch the video above as indisputable proof of the statement. The ‘lovers’ run to the woods where Oberon, King of the Fairies and the mischievous Puck await them. Add the Mechanicals into the equation and you have simply the funniest comedy ever written.

THE SECRET SOCIETY OF FOTHERINGTOWER

Five children, each possessing a significant gift, are offered places at the prestigious Fotheringtower School. Only Professor Wissenwise knows why and he has mysteriously disappeared, some say pursuing his pet hobby;  another archeological expedition!

In the absence of the Professor his arch rival, Lord Fenwick/Lady Fenwick, hopes to take over control of the Board of Governors. First, however, he/she must discover a way through the fireplace into the Other World. The key, or so he/she thinks, is in Goodman’s Encyclopedia of Hireoglyphics. Lady Fenwick enlists the aid of her son/daughter in the quest for the key and Fenwick junior is determined to please his/her mother no matter what the consequences!

NOW, here’s the thing…….In Ancient Egypt [ the Other World ] some rotter has stolen the Great Key that keeps the universe in balance! The mummy who stands guard over the key has been awakened and Pharoah is livid! At any time horrible things could happen…fire, flood, plagues, earthquakes, you know, the usual when the universe is out of balance.

Anyway, as you can plainly see, someone has to jolly well put things right. Keep your eye on that bounder Annubis, watch out for the dragon and the skeletons and don’t forget about the crocodile Amut!

Oh, and for goodness sake, don’t do anything to offend the mummy.

Above all, trust in the Professor and I’m pretty confident that things will end up in a whopping great chorus song!

ALICE IN CYBERLAND

A musical about bullying and self discovery, with a pertinent message for our time.

Curious!!! Alice, for that’s her name, tried in vain to fit in. At first she sought through glossy magazines where trendy proofshopped teenage fashion queens point the way to happiness and success.

She tried so hard, but trying hard isn’t cool.

She should have known that we would leave her out there on her own.

With just her mobile telephone that must have, to belong device, one MUST possess at any price.
But sad to say that SMS was not a friend to Alice,

that texts were few and far between, except to crush her self esteem.

She lived alone and full of doubt, she thought, poor thing, and tried to work it out.

ALICE:

My nose isn’t right.
My teeth aren’t white. My hair is a fright.
I’m afraid at night.
I’m not the right height. I’m a dreadful sight.
